TaylorMade Golf Launches New Ghost Putters
January 09, 2012
BASINGSTOKE, Hants (9 January, 2012) - Following a successful year which saw increased global market share growth and an abundance of white putters in play across all major global Tours, TaylorMade Golf Company is positioning itself for an even bigger 2012, introducing a new collection of Ghost putters - Ghost Manta, Ghost Tour and White Smoke putter series.
The Tour proven white finish of the Ghost putters, developed in cooperation with TaylorMade teaching professional and putting guru Dave Stockton, eliminates glare and “hot spots” on the crown while contrasting sharply with the turf to make aiming easy. “Players at all levels are finding performance benefits from the white heads” said Michael Fox, TaylorMade Golf's Product Marketing Manager for putters and wedges.
Ghost Manta Putter
Similar to its Ghost Spider predecessor, the new Ghost Manta provides the performance benefits of a high-MOI (moment of inertia) putter, but is packaged neatly in a more traditional one-piece neo-mallet shape that is sure to appeal to a wide range of golfers.
An update to its Ghost predecessors, the Ghost Manta features a new flat matte white finish which helps golfers align themselves to the putt more easily. Key to the alignment performance of the Ghost Manta is its wide-bodied frame, which features two black rails on the top of the putter head that frame the golf ball and contrast with the white top to help improve alignment and visibility. In additon, the Ghost Manta features a new double-bend shaft, which provides the correct amount of offset without the shaft distracting from the putt.
Weighting system provides high MOI
The Ghost Manta features two 50-gram tungsten weights on the heel and toe of the sole, which are designed to stabilise the putter and increase MOI. This high MOI produces consistent speed on off-centre hits. There is also a third adjustable weight in the back-centre of the sole (additional weights may be purchased separately). The stock 33 and 34-inch putter heads weigh 360 grams, whereas the 35-inch putter head weighs 370 grams and the belly putter head weight is 380 grams. The head weight of the Ghost Manta long version is 440 grams.
Improved Alignment Elements
The Ghost Manta putter has two alignment elements: the leading edge and the dual alignment lines. The leading edge contrasts highly against the white surface of the putter and the green itself, while the alignment lines are painted black to maximise the golfer’s ability to see these elements clearly and use them effectively to aim the putter.
The Ghost Manta is equipped with TaylorMade's patented PURE ROLL surlyn insert, which promotes forwardspin to help reduce skidding to encourage a smooth, accurate roll and precise speed control. The PURE ROLL insert's soft Surlyn construction delivers a satisfyingly soft sound and feel at impact.
Availability and Pricing
The Ghost Manta is available at retail on 25 March, 2012 with an RRP of £149, 179€, 1.699SEK, 1.599NOK, 1.499DKK and 249CHF for standard-length heel and centre-shaft versions, and £179, 199€, 1.999SEK, 1.799NOK, 1.699DKK and 279CHF for belly and long putters.
Ghost Tour Putter Series
Included in this year’s offering are three mallets (Ghost Tour Corza, MA-81 and FO-72) and three blades (DA-12, DA-62, SE-62).
In addition to the durable white finish, the shapes of the new Ghost Tour series have also been carefully refined. Working extensively with PGA Tour players, each model has been carefully shaped to extenuate every detailed curve and edge. Each is engineered with four degrees of loft under the advisement of Dave Stockton. “I encourage all golfers to find a putter with the proper loft and an insert that gets the ball rolling quickly toward the hole. The Ghost Tour Series fits the bill and is incredibly easy to aim with the white finish" said Stockton.
Also new to this year’s line is the incorporation of adjustable sole weights (except Ghost Tour Corza) which allows the golfer to add or remove weight to customise feel.
Each Ghost Tour putter is equipped with a Titallium-alloy PURE ROLL insert to deliver crisp, clean feel and promote smooth and accurate roll. The PURE ROLL Titallium insert is slotted with 14 grooves, each polymer-filled to promote more consistent deflection and to prevent debris from lodging in the grooves that would negatively affect performance.

The White Smoke Series consists of three models, IN-12, IN-74 and MC-72, each a classic shape proven to please the eye. To aid alignment, each model incorporates three black alignment lines on top to reinforce the player’s ability to easily detect when the putter face is square to the target line promoting more accurate putts. The White Smoke Series also features TaylorMade’s Tour proven PURE ROLL face insert.
