Golf fans rejoice! The Betfred British Masters marks the European Tour’s return to the UK for the first time since October. The famed Dave Thomas design always peaks a golf fan’s interest as heavily tree-lined fairways, water in-play on nine holes, and small, well-bunkered greens await the players, with distance off the tee a real advantage.
For 2021, in addition to the man of the moment Robert MacIntyre, the Team TaylorMade athletes teeing it up this week include Martin Kaymer, Romain Langasque, Sami Välimäki, Joël Stalter, Rasmus Højgaard, Pep Anglès, Robin Roussel, Max Schmitt and Gavin Green.
Coming off an impressive campaign stateside, Robert MacIntyre identified that his 6 & 7 Iron were spinning a little low and creating a yardage gap of 17-18 yards as opposed to the 11-13 most players like to see, Bob worked with our Tour team to rectify this after recording spin and distance with each iron.
In his own words, he LOVES SIM2 driver and stated that it’s the best he has driven it since turning pro, however he felt the face angle was a little too open to his eye. After measuring every head on the truck, the team were able to find the best combination on face angle vs. loft.
“Naturally we don’t carry as many left-handed heads as we do right-handed, so we were able to measure every head and cherry pick the perfect one. Bob loved it instantly!” - Mark Thistleton, TaylorMade Representative
This week Romain’s changed the lie of his Spider X putter by 3 degrees as he noticed his start line was slightly to the right. With his putter more upright, it’s helped him when he addressed the ball according to TaylorMade Representative Mark Thistleton and in his off week he’ll be testing Spider X Hydro Blast and Spider EX.
"Watch this space for Spider EX! We've had a lot of interest this week and now that we have the truck on the road we can customise lengths and players have already put in a couple of requests." - Mark Thistleton, TaylorMade Representative
Adjusting his SIM2 driver to help spin the ball and carry it a little further, Joël Stalter found performance in his new SIM2 10.5 Driver. Similar to Joël, Max Schmitt favoured a new SIM2 9 with Project X RDX Blue 60 6.5 shaft and after his first round he messaged Mark saying he's in love with the new driver. Sami opted for SIM2 9 and went 0.5" longer in the Ventus Black 6 X shaft.
