TaylorMade Gear

Whether you’re a professional golfer, or an amateur with a passion for the sport, one main thing you need to be aware of is the importance of getting the right set up. Your swing is your fingerprint, and our expert fitters are trained to optimise your equipment to match your game. But what should you expect when you attend one of our fitting days? We caught up with TaylorMade’s Experiential Technician Kirstin Scott to get a better understanding, plus her journey to TaylorMade.

“As a business TaylorMade has really invested into the experiential team and it’s great to see. It’s an amazing team and I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I have. Every day is different which is great, you’re meeting new people and inspiring people to get out onto the course and play which is the goal.”

Talk Us Through a Fitting Day

Every fitter will adopt a different approach, but I like to get to the venue an hour before to be able to setup all the equipment and check in with the head pro before we start. Each event typically lasts between 4-5 hours and we see 8-10 people. Appointments vary, but we usually say 30 minutes for a driver fitting and an hour for a full bag.

What I would say if you’re looking to attend a TaylorMade fitting day is that if you already have a club, bring it to the fitting so that the fitter can evaluate both clubs and you’ll be able to feel and see the difference as we use advanced launch monitor technology such as TrackMan® and GCQuads to track key data points such as launch, spin and distance.

“Attending fittings where people have come with clubs that they’ve found in their garage or attic and wanting to play again are special as they’ve been pulled back into the game and you can see how much technology has moved on in these fittings.”

I can’t speak for all regions, but for Scotland it would be the SIM2 Max D-Type. As we tend to play in tougher conditions, we hit a bit steeper on the ball and see a few more slices so it’s been very popular! Our vast range of heads and shaft options have been crucial as it allow us to quickly change shafts and clubheads in order to identify the best combination during the fitting.

How long have you got? I think like most my dad got me into the game at a young age and I don’t think I ever looked back. I remember doing Saturday Junior lessons at Bearsden Golf Club and it was really fun, hanging out with your pals hitting golf balls – what more could you want. After a few years I joined a club and went on to compete in Junior Medals and played a bit of County and then Scotland Under 16’s and 18’s and then moved to a golf club that had a great Ladies section.

But I’d say the turning moment was when I did work experience at Hilton Park Golf Club, I loved it that much that I asked for them to take me on at weekends and then during the summer. I did a Golf Facilities Management at Elmwood College for a year and a couple of months later the head pro at Hilton Park Golf Club was leaving and I was given the opportunity to start my PGA Training which I jumped at the chance.

I started my second year of PGA Training at Gleneagles and it really opened my eyes. I worked there for 5 years and I took every opportunity that came my way. I did a lot or retail and coaching and also worked with a lot of Juniors at the PGA National Academy. It was an unforgettable experience and while I was there, the Ryder Cup came into town.

One phone call can change your life. I’d moved back to Glasgow after leaving Gleneagles in 2018 and found myself slowly moving into an office-based role and knew something needed to change. I saw that TaylorMade we’re hiring for an experiential role and in January 2020 I put myself forward and got the good news in February 2020 that I would be joining Team TaylorMade and well, we all know what happened after the global pandemic hit.

Within a short period of time I got to know the whole team and even though it was done remotely I couldn’t wait to get out on the road.

I would say that there’s so many routes you can go down within the industry so experience as much as you can and don’t have any preconceptions! Prior to my role with TaylorMade, Custom Fitting wasn’t high on my list of careers, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s a great feeling to know that you’ve helped to improve someone’s game.

It’s got to be the Ryder Cup. It won’t be back in Scotland in my lifetime I don’t think. It was incredible being so close to players and chatting to their caddies. Standing on the range at 5.30am watching Rory McIlroy hit balls on the range, it was awesome.

My favourite player is Rory McIlroy, so he’s got to be in there and then Seve Ballesteros. I’d say the final addition would be Suzann Pettersen just so I could quiz her about the Solheim Cup.
