Being 20-years old with 130 mph clubhead speed? Must be nice.

When Team TaylorMade’s Nicolai Højgaard picked up his second DP World Tour victory at the Ras al Khaimah Championship, he led the field in both Strokes Gained Off-the-Tee (+2.21) and driving distance (340.75 yards). Those eye-popping numbers came as no surprise to our TaylorMade tour reps, who’d fit Nico into a 9° Stealth Plus driver with a Tensei AV White 65 X shaft.

“It was amazing to see Nicolai’s first shot with his built-to-spec Stealth Plus driver hit 190 mph ball speed. While that’s exciting and takes a special type of player, he’s more focused on accuracy, which we started to dial in during the fit. Most of our testing was done on course, similar to Rory. It’s about the ability to hit shots and turn the driver into a real weapon, given the speed and power he has in the tank.”
Adrian Rietveld, TaylorMade Senior Tour Rep

The shaft was a quick match. He drove the ball spectacularly in the second half of last season after making the switch back to his old reliable Tensei White. If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it. His ball speeds with Stealth Plus were off the charts out of the gate. For Højgaard, the focus was dialing in both launch and spin to optimize forgiveness.

We tested four heads initially, including three different 10.5° models and a single 9° Stealth Plus. Spin was too low on the first head, and he prefers to see a spin rate of 2600-2700 on mis-hits. We landed on the 9° head with standard loft because it checked every box. The face angle he liked at address, the forgiveness, the extra ball speed and the spin properties on mis-hits.

Here’s a look at his crazy launch monitor numbers. If something’s not adding up, remember he’s using meters and not yards. (300 meters = 328 yards)

Total Distance | 322.6 meters = 352.8 yards
