Tour

It’s the start of major season, and the LPGA Tour kicks it off with The Chevron Championship at Mission Hills Country Club. The iconic tournament is most known for its champion taking a plunge into “Poppie’s Pond,” so let’s see how Team TaylorMade athletes are preparing to make a splash. Here’s a breakdown of what’s in the bag for the squad at this opening major.

Esther is a high-launch player, which is why she’s selected an 8° Stealth Plus head that produced a lower flight with less and more roll out for windy condition. Headed into this week, the team adjusted the loft on her 8-6 irons to fix a gapping issue. Esther became the second Team TaylorMade athlete to win worldwide with Stealth at The Magic of Kenya Open on the Ladies LPGA Tour.

It’s a lot of firsts for Pia Babnik this week at The Chevron Championship. Not only does this week mark her LPGA debut, it also marks her first start in a major. It’s a name that you might not be familiar with now, but since turning professional Pia has already claimed two Ladies European Tour titles, both in 2021. Did we mention she’s only 18?

We weakened the loft on her 4i so it goes a little shorter to optimize the distance gap between her 3 and 4 irons. She’s also locked and loaded with fresh grooves in her new MG3 wedges.

“Pia has a little more speed than most players on the LPGA Tour, and that makes gapping extremely important. When you’re trying to cover larger distance spans, but still only have 14 clubs do it, the tools in the bag have to become more versatile and consistent. That’s what we spent a lot of time on with her.”

Charley is one of the premier ball strikers on the LPGA Tour and is coming off a strong finish the JTBC Classic where finished alone in 7th (12-under). Her bag remains the same this week, but she’s added fresh MG3 wedges for increased spin control. At the same time, she’s testing a new low-bounce 60° wedge for improved feel and performance on tight lies around the green.

Sei Young Kim OSN 01829 v1
SY Kim

SY came into the week with a consistent left miss on her fairway woods. The solution? We replaced her normally 13.5° 3wd with a 15° head and then cranked the adjustable loft sleeve down to lower. This is a powerful tool for fitters and golfers at every level. When you decrease loft using the sleeve, it also opens the face and helps counteract a left miss. We used the same process with her 19° 5wd.

SH Park

No notes. SH came into the week with her bag already dialed and no changes were needed. She’s an extremely consistent player and rarely finds a need to adjust her equipment. Earlier in the season, however, the former World No. 1 added a P·790 4i to the bag to tighten the distances between her 19° Rescue and longest iron.
