The year’s final major is here, where has the time gone! A true test of links golf awaits Team TaylorMade this week at Muirfield as dunes, swales, pot bunkers and, most of all, the weather comes into play on nearly every hole. Let’s get stuck into some of the equipment changes.
Securing her second Major at the Amundi Evian Championship last week, Brooke Henderson arrived at Muirfield in high spirits. Taking in the sights and sounds of the course she mentioned, “I think it's maybe my favourite links that I've ever played”. Standing on the 8th tee, we witnessed Brooke flight her TP5x straight down the fairway and she noted that “Links golf is very different and definitely a big challenge for me, but every year, I feel like I get a little bit more comfortable with the different shots and the different style of play that you need to use.”.
If you’ve not heard the name Pia Babnik, we’d suggest that you look her up! Averaging 281- yards, she’s one of the longest hitters on the Ladies European Tour and let's just say: Ball Striker!
As for this week’s setup, Pia tested various 2-iron options to replace her 5-wood. Preferring the look of Stealth UDI she put on a ball strikers clinic both on and off the range, “I feel like I have better control off the tee and fairway, I love it”.
Whilst going through her bag, she noticed that her 3-wood was going a bit high. Controlling her spin numbers with a heavier shaft, she found a more consistent ball flight. This change did have a knock on effect at the top end of her bag as she’s also opted for a heavier driver shaft this week.
Settled in her equipment, there’s no updates this week on her setup. Feeling in control of her long game, she mentioned that she’s got a secret weapon with TP5x in her bag.
Esther hit the course earlier in the week to get a feel of the conditions and made a small tweak to her setup. Struggling to launch her 3-wood, she hit the range with Tour Representative Mark Thistleton and found a slightly higher lofted head which suited her eye and desired ball flight.
