When any new club to makes it into the bag of a touring professional, no guesswork is allowed. Everything is measured, tested and runs through the gamut of range, launch monitor and on-course testing.
That was the case with Scottie Scheffler’s new Stealth 2 Plus that went into play this week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
“When we got onsite at Phoenix, I went to truck and build what I thought would be best for Scottie based on our last month of interactions,” says Senior Tour Rep Adrian Rietveld. “We took it to the range and threw it on the TrackMan. We got launch where we wanted by dictating the 8° loft, but it seemed like the spin was just a little higher than he would want. He liked hitting so much though, that he just kept swinging it and then took it to the course for a practice round.”

Scottie Scheffler found a new weight setup for his #Stealth2Driver and it’s paying off. He’s currently first in strokes gained: tee-to-green and in solo first place at 10-under. #Fargiveness

The Stealth 2 he took with him has a 15g front weight and 22g back weight. After watching drives on the first tee, Rietveld could see that uptick in spin was impacting performance on course.
“You have to see the flight, see the numbers, see the launch and react,” he says. “That’s what I did. We went back to the truck, brought out a wrench and some different weights.”
Exhibiting trust in Rietveld and Team TaylorMade, Scheffler made some tweaks to the driver on the course – adding a 19g weight to the back and 18g weight up front with the intent of dropping spin while maintaining the same launch conditions.

As they moved to the next tee box, Scottie took out both clubs (current gamer vs. tweaked Stealth 2) and blistered two drives down the middle. Instantly the flight with Stealth 2 was flatter and the spin had dropped by approximately 200 RPMs.
“Bang, 10 yards farther with the new Stealth 2,” says Rietveld. “We go to the 17th tee, an iconic hole on this course, same thing. The 18th hole, same thing. We were confident that with the launch characteristics and on-course performance this driver would be going into play. And after watching every single show on Featured Groups, I couldn’t be more pleased with the work our team did.”
As of publishing, Scottie Scheffler was tied for first at the Waste Management Phoenix Open while ranking 2nd in Strokes Gained Off the Tee and third in Driving Accuracy at 73.91% (17/23).
